Summary

The ultimate goal of the +Atlantic project is to promote a consortium in the form of an International Observatory, to stimulate participatory risk governance activities, to support the design of public policies and the sustainable development of industry, so as to foster the endogenous development of Atlantic regions. It is particularly aimed to help to improve our understanding of new innovation dynamics and technology-based services for offshore sustainable industries over the Atlantic. The project has five specific objectives:

■ Creation of a Communication Platform based on suitable information and communication technologies (ICT) for the offshore industry in the Atlantic;
■ Characterization of the dynamics of offshore related industries in the last 40 years;
■ Identification, analysis, and promotion of most appropriate offshore technologies and methods for inspection and maintenance of subsea
systems; integrated ocean observing systems merging in-situ and remote sensing data with high-resolution 3D forecast models.
■ Prevention monitoring and mitigation of environmental risks;
■ Analysis and discussion of new opportunities, new businesses, new technologies and new jobs for the offshore and onshore industries involving the creation and/or amelioration of infrastructure and encouraging the commercialization of science, technology and the incubation of new industries.
