University Spinoffs and Venture Capital Seminar

On monday June 8th, at 5 PM, an ISR-Lisboa seminar occurred with several invited guests, on the topic of high-growth entrepreneurship fuelled by deep-tech, hosted together with Armilar Ventures.

Armilar Venture Partners is Portugal’s leading venture capital funds manager and a deep-tech investor in ICT, HealthTech and CleanTech, with a focus on early-stage technology-based companies. José Guerreiro de Sousa (Partner) and Rodolfo Condessa (Senior Associate) were invited to share Armilar’s experience in investing and supporting European deep tech startups, in particular university spin-offs. This can be considered very useful for researchers considering to invest their resources in this field or who are curious to learn more about the world of tech companies and capital investments.

In the session catered to the ISR-Lisboa community, the invited speakers also presented Armilar’s Fund V, which is focused on technology transfer. Both José and Rodolfo are IST alumni and José is a former researcher at INESC, whereas Rodolfo is a former technology transfer coordinator of IST, which meant a very interactive session with José and Rodolfo even making themselves available for follow-up bilateral talks. What made the talk even more interesting was that several ISR/Técnico alumni who have become entrepreneurs or currently deal with company investments also joined, in order to share their experience and inspire the next generation of researchers. We’d like to thank João Mota from Albatroz Engineering, Paulo Alvito from IDmind, Ricardo Ferreira from Robobtics , Pedro Soares from Agora Systems and Marco Barbosa from TURFLYNX for joining and sharing their wisdom in the field.

If you are interested in entrepreneurship or considering starting your own tech startup it’s possible to watch the session online and a great opportunity to learn about your options and how to plan the next steps.
