The aim of this project is to use pattern-matching strategies, based on MR Fingerprinting for estimating the water diffusion coefficient in the brain. Since diffusion-weighted sequences are typically also T2-weighted, and given that the latter are much less sensitive to patient motion, we have started by estimating T2, using Multi-Echo Spin Echo acquisitions. We have so far demonstrated that accurate T2 estimates can be obtained even in the presence of inhomogeneous B1 transmit fields. We are currently working on new strategies to enable acquisition speedup and to include prior knowledge in the reconstruction algorithm so as to improve the accuracy of the parameter estimates.
